An ion restraining bolt was a device used to lock down a starship so that it could not lift off, typically when its proprietor was trying to outrun debts. It was essentially a larger version of the type of device used to restrict the behavior of a droid.[1] When Lando Calrissian attempted to leave Vandor[2] in 10 BBY,[3] he found the Millennium Falcon locked down with such a device.[2]
