A hyperspace sextant was an instrument used in hyperspace navigation four millennia before the Cold War. Maz Kanata kept one such device in her curio box in her castle on Takodana.[2] Sometime after the Imperial Era, Riley was given an "onboarding pack" by the Irving Boys, that included hyperspace sextant, Smuggler's Guide logbook, and other things. Later, Quiggold recommended her to the Gray Gundarks as a swabbie crewer, in exchange for a satchel which contained the logbook, in which he spotted the broken sextant.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Hyperspace sextants were first mentioned in the 2015 reference book Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary, written by Pablo Hidalgo.[2] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, a similar device known as an astrogation plotter was first mentioned in Platt's Smugglers Guide, a 1997 supplement to West End Games' version of Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[3]
