"Cargo ferry Sela is carrying the TIE Defender prototypes and will rendezvous with escort carrier Hininbirg near Vinzen Neela 5."
―An Imperial briefing officer — (audio) Listen (file info)[2]

The Hininbirg was a Ton-Falk-class escort carrier in the Imperial Navy. Following the Battle of Hoth, the Hininbirg was set to receive TIE/D Defender prototypes from the cargo ferry group Sela near Vinzen Neela 5 but came under fire from Rebel Alliance forces when it entered the area. As the carrier engaged the Rebels, Imperial starfighters protected the transfer operation. After receiving all of the TIE Defenders, the Hininbirg departed the area for the planet Coruscant.

Description[]

A Ton-Falk-class escort carrier, the Hininbirg[2] was manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards and possessed ten H8 dual laser cannons and a VL-6 warhead launch system.[1] The carrier measured 500 meters in length, could reach a top speed of 12 MGLT, and possessed three sublight drives and a hyperdrive. The Hininbirg had a shield rating of 180 SBD and a hull rating of 90 RU.[2]

History[]

"The Hininbirg will deliver the new fighters to Coruscant for the Emperor's inspection."
―An Imperial briefing officer, following the battle near Vinzen Neela 5 — (audio) Listen (file info)[2]

The Hininbirg served in the Galactic Empire's navy during its reign.[2] In 3 ABY,[3] following the Battle of Hoth, the Hininbirg was set to rendezvous with the cargo ferry group Sela near the astronomical object Vinzen Neela 5 to receive the group's TIE/D Defender prototypes. Before the Imperials could arrive in the area, however, Rebel Alliance forces entered the area with the aim of ambushing them and disrupting the transfer operation.[2]

Tasked with protecting the transfer, Imperial starfighters entered the area and engaged the Rebels prior to the Hininbirg and Sela's arrivals. The carrier arrived in the midst of the battle[2] and traded fire with two CR90 corvettes, Vop Hui and Mar Duun, both of which attempted to destroy the starship with a minefield. TIE pilot Maarek Stele destroyed both corvettes and the mines, defending the carrier from any attacking Rebel craft.[4] The Hininbirg ultimately survived the battle and received all prototypes from Sela intact. The ship then jumped into hyperspace and delivered the TIE Defenders to[2] the planet[5] Coruscant, where Emperor Palpatine would inspect them.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

The Hininbirg first appeared in Totally Games' 1994 video game Star Wars: TIE Fighter. Featured in the sixth Tour of Duty's second mission, titled "Prevent Rebel Ambush," the ship must be protected by the player until it has received all prototypes from Sela and departed the area.[2]
