Around 1 ABY,[2] the Heist on the Halcyon was carried out by Maz Kanata, Hondo Ohnaka, and Lando Calrissian. The trio had traveled to the Halcyon starcruiser to recover a number of artifacts, including a box that belonged to Kanata, from Imperial General Kardan, who had taken them from planets his forces had invaded.[1]

Under the pretense of selling the Crown Jewels of Alderaan to Kardan, Kanata met with the general and provided him with the jewels. After Kardan inspected them to verify their authenticity, Kanata informed the general that she wanted to collect her payment and leave as she had been followed by thieves who sought the jewels. Kardan then transferred 80,000 Imperial credits to Kanata and was informed one of the thieves was the pirate Hondo Ohnaka, and that he was aboard the Halcyon. In response, the general put the jewels into his safe and had stormtroopers sent to find Ohnaka, though he wanted the incident kept discreet as some of his fellow Imperials would not be understanding of his hobby.[1]

As Ohnaka distracted a pair of stormtroopers, Calrissian disguised himself as a crewmember of the Halcyon and offered the general assistance with taking his artifacts to his shuttle. Once he had gotten ahold of Kardan's relics, he hit the general and a pair of stormtroopers with Kanta's box, and made his escape. After Calrissian regrouped with the two pirates, Kanata tipped the recovered relics out of her box and onto a bed to be reclaimed and informed Calrissian and Ohnaka that she had paid them both 40,000 credits for their help. She then revealed that the jewels were not actually the Crown Jewels, though they were actually gemstones from Alderaan. After they left, Kanata sent an anonymous tip to the Imperial Security Bureau about the general's hobby.[1]
