The hafa vine grew on the planet Garqi. It produced leaves and fruits that were an ingredient in the Cassandran choholl alcoholic beverage and was considered a luxury food. Its cultivation on Garqi was encouraged under Imperial rule, and Imperial scientist Chine Gabbard once tried to use bioengineered hafa pollen to carry nerve agents.
Biology and appearance[]
Hafa was a species of vine that grew on Garqi, a planet in the Cassandran Worlds. The vine was considered a luxury food[1] as its leaves and fruit were harvested and fermented for use as the basis of Cassandran choholl,[2] a potent liquor[1] sought after throughout the galaxy.[3] The amber liquid was known for its fragrant, fruity vapors.[4]

Cultivation of the hafa vine on Garqi was encouraged by the Imperial Procurator after the planet and its fellow Cassandran Worlds were annexed by the Galactic Empire shortly before the Battle of Yavin. Chine Gabbard, an Imperial botanist who also worked for the agricultural corporation Rehemsa Consumables, worked at Garqi Agricultural University, ostensibly trying to improve the crop yield of hafa vines. The project garnered much attention; however, few knew that Gabbard was actually working for the Empire, trying to create a bioweapon from hafa vines suitable for use on Imperial black ops missions. His work involved bioengineering hafa pollen to carry nerve agents, and he was close to recommending that the Empire seize Garqi and turn it into a mass manufacturing center for his bioweapon.[1]
Downwind from Gabbard's research station was the Vlassy Nature Preserve, home to rdava-birds. Hafa pollen loaded with the nerve agent from Gabbard's experiments escaped his facility and killed off significant numbers of the birds along with several biologists who tried to investigate the avian deaths. Prior to the biologists' deaths, a group of operatives they had hired began to be affected by the nerve agent as well, but not before the agents broke into Gabbard's facility and obtained the antidote.[1]

The hafa was created for Geonosis and the Outer Rim Worlds, a 2004 roleplaying game sourcebook published by Wizards of the Coast for use with the Star Wars Roleplaying Game.[1]
