Garrthinius was a planet in the Outer Rim Territories' Steniplis sector that was under the control of the Galactic Empire by the time of the Battle of Endor. Although the population was largely sympathetic to anti-Imperial activity, the insurgents' efforts to resist Imperial occupation were disorganized. Several Rebel Alliance agents traveled to the planet, where they eventually turned the various revolutionary groups into a force capable of overthrowing the Imperial government.

Description[]

Garrthinius was a terrestrial planet[4] in the Garrthinius system,[3] which was located in the Steniplis sector of the Outer Rim Territories[1] in the Western Reaches.[2]

History[]

By the time of the Battle of Endor[4] of 4 ABY,[5] Garrthinius was ruled by the Galactic Empire. At one point, Imperial Intelligence leaked a fake layout plan of the planet's Imperial garrison in an attempt to trap any anti-Imperial insurgents trying to break into the facility. In the month between the Battle of Endor and the founding of the New Republic, Garrthinius's Imperial government declared martial law.[4]

At some point during that month-long interval, capitalizing on the disorganized state of the Imperial Navy in the wake of Galactic Emperor Palpatine's death at the Battle of Endor, the Rebel Alliance dispatched a team of operatives to Garrthinius to organize the planet's revolutionary groups into a coherent Rebel network capable of agitating the ruling Imperials. The Rebel team's contact was murdered by Imperial Intelligence agent Tyric, who had infiltrated the group. He then impersonated the contact and pretended to aid in the Rebel agents' mission.[4]

During the Alliance's efforts to rescue several leaders of Garrthinius's insurgent groups, who had been arrested and detained at the Imperial garrison, Tyric accidentally exposed his knowledge of the facility despite the Rebel team using the leaked fake layout plan and thus revealed himself as an Imperial spy. After successfully defeating Tyric and rescuing the leaders, the Alliance operatives united the revolutionary groups and overthrew the Imperial occupation.[4]

Inhabitants[]

The population of Garrthinius was rife with anti-Imperial sentiment, and the planet was home to multiple disunited revolutionary groups that resisted the Empire. The anti-Imperial sentiment of the planet also resulted in a strong Imperial Intelligence presence, with Imperial Intelligence agents, such as Tyric, infiltrating some of the resistance groups.[4]

Locations[]

An Imperial garrison of a modular design was located on Garrthinius. The make of the facility was so unusual that Imperial Intelligence was able to utilize the building as a trap for Rebel Alliance agents by leaking a fake layout plan depicting a standard Imperial Army garrison.[4]

Behind the scenes[]

Garrthinius was mentioned in The Truce at Bakura Sourcebook, a roleplaying guide authored by Kathy Tyers and Eric S. Trautmann and published in 1996 by West End Games for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. In the book, the planet is used in an adventure seed as the location of a Rebel Alliance mission; this article assumes the scenario plays out as described.[4] The Essential Atlas, a reference book published in 2009, placed the Garrthinius system, and therefore the planet itself, in grid square M-18.[3]
