The Event Horizon was a battlecruiser which was part of the Imperial-aligned Kuati Sector Forces in 8.5 ABY during the Galactic Civil War, a conflict fought between the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic and later its successor state, the New Republic. The Event Horizon, along with the rest of the Kuati fleet, guarded the planet Kuat, home to Kuat Drive Yards—a key shipyard for the Galactic Empire. During the New Republic offensive in 8.5 ABY, a Republic virus in the computer networks of the Event Horizon caused it to close its hangars while turning its guns on the rest of the Kuati fleet.

Description[]

A battlecruiser, the Event Horizon had multiple hangars and batteries. Its systems were also vulnerable to computer viruses.[1]

History[]

The Event Horizon was part of the Imperial Kuati Sector Forces[1] in 8.5 ABY,[2] during the Galactic Civil War, in which the Alliance to Restore the Republic, which was later replaced by the New Republic, fought against the Galactic Empire. The Event Horizon guarded the planet Kuat, home to the Kuat Drive Yards ship building facilities, a vital component to the Empire's war effort. Some of the many astromech droids in Kuat Drive Yards' droid pool at that time had been inserted by New Republic slicers, and those astromechs uploaded a coded computer virus into the networks of the Event Horizon and four other Kuati warships.[1]

Once the virus was installed, a transmission was sent from the Event Horizon to the New Republic's Surprise Squadron in the Venir system, a squadron composed of RZ-1 A-wing interceptors armed with ion torpedoes. Surprise Squadron arrived in the Kuat system, and their ion weaponry soon overloaded the systems of four warships while the virus installed in the Event Horizon and the other inflicted ships caused those vessels to lock down their hangars and aim their batteries at the remains of the Kuati fleet. The Minister of Commerce of the New Republic, Ral'Rai Muvunc, hailed the Kuati officials and revealed that the New Republic controlled thirty-four percent of the company's shares. As they faced an enemy who could disable nine warships—one of them the Event Horizon—from their defense force in a matter of minutes, as well as one who controlled a substantial portion of their shares, the Kuati officials surrendered to the Republic.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Event Horizon was first mentioned in The Essential Guide to Warfare, an extensive guide dedicated to the conflicts in the galaxy released in 2012, written by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart.[1]
