"The Praji family, on the other hand, descends from one of the original Founding Parents yet clings to influence after most of its contemporaries have been left by the wayside of history. To outsiders they sometimes seemed as harsh and cruel as the ice storms of Ensolica, but to their own they were nothing if not loyal."
―Doctor Gabrel Treon, "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji: A Cartel of Genes"[3]

Ensolica was a planet of ice and tundra located in the Core Worlds. It was the homeworld of the near-Human Enso species, members of which were experts in hydroponics. The Enso offworld merchant Teyora Rekab hailed from Ensolica.

Description[]

Ensolica was a planet[2] located in the Ensolica system, a part of the Negs portion of the Core Worlds.[1] It was a frigid world[2] of violent ice storms,[3] and its surface was predominantly covered by expansive ice wastes and tundra. Forests of coniferous trees grew in the planet's relatively warmer equatorial regions.[2]

History[]

The Enso hydroponics expert and merchant Captain Teyora Rekab, who, along with her Enso starship crew, worked offworld[2] in 32 BBY,[4] hailed from Ensolica.[2] Individuals not associated with the Core Worlds' ancient House Praji occasionally compared their perceived harshness and cruelty to the storms on Ensolica, a fact that was noted by Doctor Gabrel Treon in the article "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji: A Cartel of Genes," published in 104 ABY in the Byblos Journal of Historical Science.[3]

Inhabitants[]

Ensolica was the homeworld of the Ensos, a near-Human offshoot species that had adapted for the harsh conditions of the planet.[2] In order to maintain a low body temperature when traveling offworld, members of the species often wore specialized coolth suits.[5] Most Ensos lived in cities chiseled into Ensolica's ice sheets, and members of the species were by necessity experts in plant hydroponics. As a consequence, offworld corporations such as Alderaan Biotics and Tusus Comestibles frequently recruited the most competent Ensos.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Ensolica was developed as part of the backstory for Teyora Rekab,[2] an originally unnamed character appearing in the 1999 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.[6] Nathan O'Keefe,[7][3] writing as "Valin Kenobi," submitted an entry for Rekab[2] through the StarWars.com Hyperspace feature "What's The Story?," and it was added to the site's Databank on January 12, 2007.[8] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Ensolica system, and therefore Ensolica itself, in grid square K-10.[1]
