"What we've seen of Rey, she looks like she can handle her stuff. So most of the comments I get are from parents who say how wonderful it is that their little girls can see this character."
―Daisy Ridley[2]

Daisy Ridley (born April 10, 1992) is a British actress who stars in Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi, and Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker as the character Rey.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Ridley was born Daisy Jazz Isobel Ridley in Westminster, London on April 10, 1992, the daughter of the banker Louise Fawkner-Corbett and the photographer Christopher Ridley. She has two older sisters, Kika Rose and Poppy Sophia. Her great-uncle was the actor Arnold Ridley.[source?]

Star Wars[]

Ridley's involvement with the Star Wars saga was first announced on April 29, 2014.[3] She also voiced her character in the video games Disney Infinity 3.0,[4] LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens,[5] and Star Wars: Battlefront II as well as doing the voice in the television series Star Wars Forces of Destiny.[6]

On August 7, 2014, it was reported that Ridley would reprise her role as Rey in both Episodes VIII and IX.[7]

Ridley won Best Breakthrough Performance for her portrayal of Rey at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards.[8]

Star Wars composer John Williams cited Ridley's "enchanting performance" as Rey as a factor in his decision to return for Episode VIII, stating that he would not want another composer scoring her scenes.[9]

At Celebration Europe (2023) it was announced that Ridley would reprise her role as Rey in an Untitled Star Wars film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy set fifteen years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker.[10]
