Crystalline reformatter were a type of device consisting of a silver metallic cylinder with one tapered end with a protrusion. A second curved protrusion extended from one side of the device out in front of the first protrusion. The reformatters also had two switches on their body both marked in blue.[1]

The Jedi-in-training Rey owned a crystalline reformatter and kept it on her workbench at the Resistance base on the moon Ajan Kloss. The equipment on the workbench was used for flexing her mechanical skills, studying the jedi texts and repairing the Skywalker lightsaber by healing its kyber crystal.[1] In 35 ABY,[2] the reformatter was among the equipment laid out on the workbench when the YT-1300 light freighter known as the Millennium Falcon returned to the base.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

A crystalline reformatter first appeared in the 2019 sequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker.[3] It was first identified in the accompanying reference book Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo.[1]

  2. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary dates the events of Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker to one year after the events of Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. As Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates the events of The Force Awakens to 34 ABY, the events of The Rise of Skywalker, which includes the appearance of the heating pedestal, must occur in 35 ABY.
