Carbon-based life forms were organisms whose biochemistry was based on carbon compounds, with water as a solvent. The majority of sentient (and other) species in the galaxy fell into that category. Such life forms typically evolved in atmospheres mostly made up of a mixture of oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen.^[1]
