"Bakurat" is a short story that was published in the Target-exclusive edition of Dark Legends. The story was written by George Mann, illustrated by Grant Griffin, and published on August 30, 2020.

Plot summary[]

According to legend following a successful smuggling job a man named Barbas got a Barkarat reading from Mila and Sir Kron in Maz Kanata's castle. After being dealt three cards Sir Kron read Barbas his fortune. First Barbas would find love in an unexpected place, second that he will lose that love through his own carelessness, then his death would quickly follow. The next day Barbas and his crew left Takodana for their next two smuggling jobs. The first was to bring a Resistance spy named Misette from Tarolax to an abandoned monitoring station on Quellus. The second was to transport a dangerous creature known as a Karlox to the Hutts.

Over the falling days Barbas spent a lot of time talking with Misette. And over the time they both fell in love with each other. However one evening Barbas overhear his fellow crew discussing selling Misette to the First Order, who they knew would pay a lot for a Resistance spy. That night Barbas told Misette to remain locked in her quarters until she heard his signal. He then proceeded to release the Karlox on his crew. After two hours of it attacking and killing the crew, Barbas left his quarters and killed the creature with a blaster he had hidden. However he realized that he had not specified the signal to Misette and she had opened her door during the rampage and was killed by the creature. Having already been contacted, the First Order arrived and executed Barbas.
