In 34 ABY,[1] pirates led by Crimson Jack launched an attack on the[2] MPO-1400 Purgill-class star cruiser[4] Halcyon after they intercepted a transmission from a Resistance spy who was traveling aboard the starship. Jack knew the information would be of value to the First Order, who would pay him a lot for it and demanded the ship's captain, Riyola Keevan, turn over the spy, with the threat of destroying the ship if his demands were not met. Keevan, however, insisted to her crew that they should remain calm as panicking would not help their passengers. As Jack began to grow tired of waiting, he had his ship fire on the Halcyon as of way of showing that he was not bluffing.[2]
