The Athallian Messenger was a courier starship that crash-landed on the planet Tatooine with a cargo of gemstones at some point by 36 BBY. Many treasure hunters subsequently searched for the vessel without success. Sometime by 4 ABY, the Eirrauc traders Daushoroc and Tamoss also attempted to find the Messenger in order to use the profits from the search to liberate other members of their species from enslavement.

History[]

Daushoroc

The trader Daushoroc was one of many who searched for the wreck of the Athallian Messenger.

The Athallian Messenger was a courier starship[1] that shared its name with Athallia, a celestial body[3] in the Athallia system of the Expansion Region's sector of the same name.[4] At some point by 36 BBY,[2] it crash-landed on[1] the Outer Rim Territories[5] desert planet Tatooine while carrying a shipment of ancient gemstones. Sandstorms soon consumed the wreck of the ship.[1]

Over the subsequent four decades, many treasure hunters unsuccessfully sought the Athallian Messenger, with most of them disappearing in the process. Members of[1] Tatooine's native Jawa species[5] refused to search for the vessel, although they did trade a map and several vague clues to the Eirrauc traders Daushoroc and Tamoss when they arrived on Tatooine to join the search[1] at some point by 4 ABY.[2]

Daushoroc expected to earn thirty to forty thousand credits if their endeavor was successful, money the two traders intended to use to help liberate their fellow Eirraucs from enslavement under the Galactic Empire. When the pair encountered in the desert a group of Tatooine's[1] other[5] native species, the Tusken Raiders, the Eirraucs offered water and a Tusken battle talisman to the group's elder. Daushoroc subsequently showed the elder an image of the Athallian Messenger on the screen of their datapad, after which the Tusken Raider pointed the traders in the direction of a distant mountain range.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Athallian Messenger appeared on a screen in the short story "Wanderer of Worlds," written by John Dunivant and published in the ninth issue of the Star Wars Galaxy Magazine[1] in October 1996.[6]

Their search took place prior to the death of Jabba Desilijic Tiure, which The New Essential Chronology dates to 4 ABY. Therefore, the starship must have crashed at some point by 36 BBY.
