Arrgaw was a major trade planet located in the Expansion Region's Kira sector. A world orbited by impressive trade rings and featuring vast expanses on its surface taken up by warehouses and other corporate structures, Arrgaw lay at the intersection of two important hyperlanes, the Hydian Way and the Harrin Trade Corridor.

During the era of the Alsakan Conflicts, Arrgaw's strategic position allowed it to become an important trade center supporting the wide-spread settlement of the Trailing Sectors. The planet was known as one of the wealthiest worlds of the Expansion Region millennia later, and refineries at Arrgaw were used to process the highly unstable nova crystals—basis for much of the hard currency used by the New Republic.

Description[]

The planet Arrgaw[1] was located in the star system of the same name.[5] It was a part of the Kira sector[2] and lay within the Trailing Sectors portion of the Expansion Region.[1]

Arrgaw occupied a strategic position in space, as it was situated at the intersection of the[1] important[6] Harrin Trade Corridor hyperlane and the super-hyperroute known as the Hydian Way. The Hydian Way connected the planet to the[1] Kira sector's[7] Pax system and the Ramordia system[1] in the Majoor sector.[7]

The Harrin Trade Corridor linked Arrgaw with the Lazerian system[1] in the Kira sector[7] and the Jurzan system,[1] located in the eponymous sector.[7] Traveling from Arrgaw on a starship equipped with a Class 1 hyperdrive, the Lazerian system could be reached in twenty-three hours, while traveling to the Lohopa system,[5] located further along the Trade Corridor[1] in the Boeus sector,[7] took three days and five hours.[5]

History[]

Following the beginning of the galaxy-spanning Alsakan Conflicts[1] in approximately 17,018 BBY,[8] Arrgaw, one of[1] eleven major[6] trading centers located on the Harrin Trade Corridor, served as an anchor world for the active settlement of the Trailing Sectors portion of the Expansion Region. The planet's economy, along with that of the other Harrin trade worlds, was eventually linked to the major Enarc Run hyperlane by the blazing of the[1] short route known as the Kira Run.[6]

Arrgaw occupied a strategic position in the Trailing Sectors portion of the Expansion Region.

By the time the Galactic Empire reigned millennia later, Arrgaw remained a powerful trade world and was considered to be one of the wealthiest planets in the entire Expansion Region. A significant portion of the Trailing Sectors' wealth was tied to Arrgaw and was under the control of Corellians, natives of the Core World of Corellia.[4]

Arrgaw still played an important part in galactic economy following the establishment of the New Republic[3] in 4 ABY.[9] Nova crystals, a type of mineral mined on the warm[3] Mid Rim[10] planet Krann, provided the basis for a large portion of New Republic's hard currency. However, the heat-sensitive crystals were unstable and highly explosive, necessitating their transportation offworld to Arrgaw, where they could be processed for safe fiscal use.[3]

Locations[]

Arrgaw was a world covered in an expansive sprawl of warehouses and corporate administrative spires. However, the planet's surface features were dwarfed by the impressiveness of the trade rings located in Arrgaw's orbit, which had become famous by the time of the Galactic Empire.[4] Arrgaw was also the site of refineries used to bond nova crystals to inert trace elements, thereby stabilizing the former.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

Arrgaw was first mentioned in "For a Few Kilotons More," a Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game adventure written by Michael Horne and published by West End Games in the 1993 book Twin Stars of Kira.[3]

The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Arrgaw system, and therefore Arrgaw itself, in grid square N-15. The book also depicted the system on a map, albeit placing it in square N-16.[1] The StarWars.com Online Companion to The Essential Atlas later confirmed that the system was located in grid square N-16.[2]
