Ankhural was a Mid Rim Territories planet within the reaches of Hutt Space and the Slice. It had one city which was protected by a ray shield to hold off giant clouds of dust from the silicon fields. In 3 ABY, the Rebel Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry took refuge at abandoned podracing track for repairs on its headquarters, the CR90 corvette Thunderstrike.

Description[]

Ankhural was a terrestrial planet[4] located within an intersecting portion of the Mid Rim Territories[2] and the Slice.[3] It was situated at the coordinates R-9 on the Standard Galactic Grid and lay in the reaches of Hutt Space.[1] The surface of the world was characterized by its silicon fields, that gave it a soft metallic luster from above. Strong winds tended to pick up much silicon and create billowing clouds of dust that swept across the surface.[5]

History[]

Criminal prosperity[]

By the time of the Galactic Empire, civilization on Ankhural comprised of a single city, its capital, along with some unmarked settlements. With the planet laying beyond Imperial space, it was a hotspot for pirates and other criminal activity. The bounty hunter Brand once visited the city, finding some charm in its seedy streets, and eventually put Ankhural's coordinates on an emergency datachip by the time she became a soldier of the 61st Mobile Infantry, a company in the Rebel Alliance against the Empire. A podracing track was once active at the edge of the city, but became disused.[4]

By 3 ABY,[6] during the Galactic Civil War between the Alliance and the Empire, Ankhural's underworld continued to be active, with free traders from Wild Space meeting with representatives of the Crymorah Syndicate,[4] a collective of crime families,[7] and Umbaran spies giving their services to remnants of Death Watch,[4] a militia of Mandalorian traditionalists.[8]

Twilight's refuge[]

In 3 ABY,[6] the 61st suffered an attack from Imperial spies that saw the loss of much of its leadership. The company went to Ankhural thereafter, where its headquarters, the CR90 corvette Thunderstrike, landed in the unused podracing track while its escort for emergency repairs, the Braha'tok-class gunship Apailana's Promise, undertook its own repairs by a skeleton crew in the planet's orbit. The company's personnel erected a tent city by the corvette, with many taking part in the starship's repairs.[4]

Meanwhile, Brand took her errands to the city, selling her very valuable DX-2 disruptor blaster pistol for a high price. She additionally sought help through an individual known as the Grandfather of Vice to make sure that there was no trouble from the local gangs with the 61st's presence at the city. She went to speak with one of the Grandfather's affiliates one day, keeping her weapons visible as she passed through alleyways tagged by preying Vivisector gangs. Entering a sheltered black market place, she matched the pace of a Weequay affiliated that assured her that there was no trouble from the gangs yet. The soldier passed on her thanks to the Grandfather of Vice and left the market, believing that someone was stalking her while she was there.[4]

At that time, the 61st First Sergeant Hazram Namir and the defected Imperial Governor Everi Chalis came to Ankhural after following Brand's datachip. The pair had come from trip with the 61st's Captain Micha Evon and two other soldiers, who had died when the Empire invaded the Alliance's base on the planet Hoth. Shortly after Brand returned to the 61st at the podracing track and indicated to Quartermaster Hober of the 61st that there was no progress or emergencies, Namir and Chalis reached the company, bringing news of their captain's death.[4]
