"Woern's Asteroid" was one of the largest asteroids in the Drup Asteroid Field, a part of the Drup's Star system in the Outer Rim Territories' Saijo sector. The mineral composition of the asteroids in the Drup Asteroid Field interfered with the sensors of starships in its vicinity.

The Elomin pirate Laerron Woern made use of that property, establishing a base for his pirate gang inside the asteroid that was named after himself. Around 7 ABY, a group of individuals discovered the existence of the pirate base on "Woern's Asteroid," leading to a New Republic assault on the asteroid.

Description[]

"Woern's Asteroid" was the name given to one of the largest asteroids in the Drup Asteroid Field. Like the rest of the asteroid field, it was situated in the Drup's Star system,[2] a part of the Outer Rim Territories' Saijo sector.[1] "Woern's Asteroid" orbited the binary stars Drup's Star and Drup's Companion, taking five hundred standard days to do so, although the asteroid itself did not rotate.[2]

"Woern's Asteroid" had light gravity and no atmosphere. The frigid asteroid's terrain featured caves and natural tunnels as well as arid hydrosphere. The mineral composition of the objects in the Drup Asteroid Field interfered with standard sensor readings, making it difficult for starships in the area to detect other vessels.[2]

History[]

By 7 ABY,[4] the Elomin Laerron Woern and his pirate gang had established a base inside the asteroid, which was named after the pirate leader. At some point, a group of individuals discovered the presence of Woern's pirate gang in the Drup Asteroid Field. The individuals eventually brought proof of the existence of the pirate base on "Woern's Asteroid" to the New Republic, which dispatched warships on an assault on the facility.[2]

Inhabitants[]

The population of "Woern's Asteroid," which numbered two hundred individuals of the Elomin, Gamorrean, Human, and Rodian species, did not import or export anything to the base located inside the asteroid.[2]

Locations[]

The mineral properties of the Drup Asteroid Field prevented the detection of Laerron Woern's pirate base on "Woern's Asteroid," with the starships of the pirates themselves also being affected by the sensor interference. The pirates, however, were aware of several routes through the asteroid field that allowed them to safely travel to their base. In addition, Woern himself discovered that the interference could be dampened by readjusting a starship's sensors, thus allowing one to locate the base.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

"Woern's Asteroid" was introduced in the 1993 sourcebook Wanted by Cracken, written by Louis J. Prosperi for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. The book includes an adventure seed for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. This article assumes the scenario plays out as described.[2] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Drup's Star system, and therefore the asteroid, in grid square J-20.[3]
