Wisdom was a quality characterized for having experience, knowledge, and sound judgment and as being in opposition to foolishness. With this quality, an individual had the ability for discerning whether some idea was good or bad. An individual's wisdom was an application of their acquired knowledge. This quality was not acquired simply from learning.

In 2258 of the alternate reality, Spock initially hesitated to tell his father Sarek what was on his mind, as he felt it would be unwise to do so. Sarek assured him that "what is necessary is never unwise." (Star Trek)

In 2265, in her conversation with James T. Kirk, Elizabeth Dehner said that both her and Gary Mitchell would in a short time be at the place where it would have taken Humans millions of years to reach after learning. They had both been given increased extrasensory perception powers after they had been infused with psionic energy. Kirk asked her if Gary would acquire the wisdom for using his newly acquired powers. (TOS: "Where No Man Has Gone Before")
