K'ranch begins a Venarix hunt for Brad Boimler...
...and takes a selfie at its conclusion
The Venarix hunt was a ritualized hunt of sentient beings practiced by the Kromsapiod species to satisfy their innate predatory urges. As Kromsapiods respected life above all else, the hunt was strictly "catch and release" and non-lethal.
A Venarix hunt began when an individual accepted a Kromsapiod's request to be hunted. The Kromsapiod would pull out a tooth and use it to mark their prey's forehead with their blood. The prey was then given an hour's head start, during which the Kromsapiod prepared themselves with a ritual that included painting their face, readying their weapons, and inhaling vapor from special candles that reversed the color of their eyes. The hunt ended once the prey was incapacitated, after which the Kromsapiod would take selfies of them both to prove the "kill".
While he was being temporarily hosted aboard the USS Cerritos in 2381, K'ranch asked Brad Boimler and D'Vana Tendi if either was willing to be hunted. Boimler, having earlier committed to himself to agree to everything, said yes without knowing the details. K'ranch proceeded to chase Boimler throughout the ship, and ultimately speared Boimler through the shoulder when the latter attempted to "become the hunter". With the hunt completed, K'ranch complimented Boimler on being excellent prey and gave him some pointers before Boimler passed out. (LD: "The Least Dangerous Game")
