A tergun was a sacred Breen oath. To violate it constituted an unthinkable breach of honor and invited retribution from other Breen.
In 3191, Captain Michael Burnham demanded that Primarch Ruhn swear a tergun to spare the Eternal Gallery and Archive if she relinquished a map, containing the location of Progenitor technology, to him. Though he was outraged at the notion of swearing to a Human, Ruhn reluctantly agreed. However, once he had the map, he prepared to destroy the Archive anyway. This act contributed to his crew ultimately siding with Moll and Lieutenant Arisar in a mutiny against him. (DIS: "Labyrinths")
