Technical requirements[]

Formatting required for this page to work with correctly with Portal:Main/Panels/Releases and Portal:Main/Panels/Premieres:

Headers[]

The auto updating feature on the Merchandise portal requires each months header to have an anchor with this format: "MONTH_YEAR".

Examples
2003 2003
November_2003 November
Nothing else can be used on the same line as headers outside of the "=" signs, including anchors or magic words, as this will break the auto updating feature.

To be announced or Unknown

...sections should never have their own header, as they should instead be formatted as a single entry or list at the bottom of the appropriate month/year.

;Unknown
* That thing: with a description of that thing.

or

* To be announced -
** Other thing, which collects issues 4-7 of the other thing series.
** "Graphic novel", Graphic Novel: Comic #1, from Publishing Company.
** Self-Sealing Stem Bolt: A Users Guide, from Rival Publishing Company.

TV and film tags[]

The TV and film tags need to start on the line above the entry you want to include, and only wrap around the information that you want to be display in the TV and films portal.

Examples
<section begin=tv />
* <noinclude>To be announced - </noinclude><includeonly>May - </includeonly>DIS is expected to be released on CBS All Access.<section end=tv />

<section begin=film />
* <includeonly>2019 - </includeonly>14, a fourth film set in the alternate reality.<section end=film />

<includeonly> and <noinclude> should be used to include information relevant to the portal page and exclude information only relevant here, respectfully. - Archduk3 06:34, December 6, 2016 (UTC)

Split or organize?[]

Is there any merit to having separate "upcoming books", "upcoming DVDs" pages, or at least putting all the books together in one section on the page, etc? --LauraCC (talk) 15:57, August 3, 2019 (UTC)

No. While "productions" might not be the best terminology, the fact is that it's still a schedule of upcoming releases (of various types). -- sulfur (talk) 22:54, August 3, 2019 (UTC)

Well then, wouldn't "releases" be better than "productions"? I mean, they're listed by release date, not by production dates. --LauraCC (talk) 15:28, August 7, 2019 (UTC)

I strongly agree with the idea of splitting this page into sections (at the very least). I check this page fairly often to see if the release dates of the various new seasons/new shows have been announced. It would be so much more convenient if there was, say, a "TV" section, rather than having to wade through a wall of "some comic book will be released, some book will be released, some line of refrigerator magnets will be released". And I'd be very surprised if there aren't a lot more people like me, who are interested in the shows themselves and not really interested at all in the comics and whatnot.
In fact, I'd even go beyond that: Frankly, the current state of this article seems more appropriate for Memory Beta than for Memory Alpha. Alpha is supposed to be for canon, i.e. TV and movies; books and comics and blah blah blah, which currently dominate this page, are not canon, and are exactly what Memory Beta is intended for. --Rwv37 (talk) 21:15, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
Part of MA's mandate is documenting the release of licensed material. MB's mandate is documenting the CONTENTS of that material. -- Sulfur (talk) 23:31, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
Well, first, "the mandate is canon and the release of licensed materials" seems an awful lot like "the mandate is canon and this specific page", which seems like a pretty poor mandate. But regardless, the Alpha/Beta thing is just a side point, and the main point would stand anyway: This page seems to me like a poorly-organized resource that can easily be made more useful for (likely) the majority of interested people. --Rwv37 (talk) 00:01, 9 May 2021 (UTC)

"Academy: Third Class" does not exist.[]

Somewhere along the line "Academy: Third Class" was added to this page. I can find no reference to such a book anywhere online, and neither the Reeves-Stevens nor Shatner seem to be aware of it. Somebody's wishful thinking, no doubt... --TimPendragon (talk) 06:15, March 18, 2020 (UTC)

The title is formatted a bit differently, but there is this and a few others. Looks like a phantom product to me, but we do still cover some of those. - Archduk3 19:36, March 18, 2020 (UTC)

Short treks[]

What exactly is this for? -- Renegade54 (talk) 01:45, June 9, 2020 (UTC)

Discovery on CBS[]

Should the forthcoming airings of Star Trek: Discovery on CBS be listed here? I know this page is usually for debuts of new material, but some people might care about the first free broadcast of the series (after the first episode, that is). —Josiah Rowe (talk) 01:57, August 27, 2020 (UTC)

Yes, and we should also track the first "airing" of these episodes in the US on the episode pages. - Archduk3 02:42, August 27, 2020 (UTC)

OK, added here. But clearly the hour is affecting my brain, so I’ll wait till tomorrow to add the free broadcast debuts to the episode pages. —Josiah Rowe (talk) 04:34, August 27, 2020 (UTC)

Add information about SNW[]

It would be nice to add information about SNW in the 2022 area, as PRO is in the 'To be announced' category of 2021 The preceding unsigned comment was added by Iordbrack (talkcontribs).

It's in the 2023 segment. When it was originally announced as airing. It might air in 2022... and if the air date is announced... we'll shift stuff around. -- Sulfur (talk)

Information about the arrival of LD in Latin America[]

Adding that LD will have their 1st and 2nd season in Latin America would be in that category? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Iordbrack (talkcontribs).

That might be 'news', or in the 'where to watch' segments of the main page. Not an 'upcoming production'. -- Sulfur (talk) 12:57, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

Picard S2 date[]

Where does the February 22 date for Picard season 2 come from? All I've seen (in last night's panel and online) is "February 2022." February 22 isn't even a Thursday, which has been the release day for all the current shows. Could the date of February 22 be someone's mistake for "February of '22"? —Josiah Rowe (talk) 18:26, 9 September 2021 (UTC)

Meh, that is entirely possible. My P+ app had a push notification come up that said something along the lines of "Picard Season 2 starts February 22" not 2022 or '22, just 22. Feb 17 is the more likely date. –Gvsualan (talk) 18:32, 9 September 2021 (UTC)

"A live-action series with a premise not yet announced"[]

I have removed the last bullet point from the "to be announced" section, reading:

 • A live-action series with a premise not yet announced. [1]

The source of the bullet point, a 2020 TrekCore post, announced that Alex Kurtzman had announced that there would be two live-action Trek shows that had not been announced. At the time, neither Star Trek: Strange New Worlds or Star Trek: Starfleet Academy had been announced, so these could be the two shows he was referring to. In fact, that is what TrekCore speculated in the very same article, based on 2018 rumors of a Starfleet Academy show in the works and fan-demand for a Captain Pike spin-off series. For these reasons, I have removed the note about the show. 🖖 Mr. Starfleet Command (open a channelcontributionsactivity) 16:56, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
