Star Trek: First Contact is the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray/Blu-ray/Digital combo release of Star Trek: First Contact. It was initially conceived to be part of the Star Trek: The Next Generation 4-Movie Collection, but it was decided to give it also a concurrent individual release in both the 4K UHD and Blu-Ray formats. The one-disc latter incidentally, was not only included in this set, but saw its own concurrent individual release as well.

The disc release constituted part of the completion of the remastering project to 4K HD 2160p resolution standards of the first ten Star Trek films which had started two years earlier with the Star Trek: The Original 4-Movie Collection. The two-disc release came in a Viva Elite case (containing the respective 4K UHD and Blu-ray discs), packaged in a cardboard slip-over sleeve. As usual with these releases (geo-restricted to the US and British Canada only, as the – former Blu-ray Region B^[1] – European/Australasian releases do not have these) redeemable codes are included for the 4K resolution digital download versions of the films.

As is increasingly becoming commonplace, no DVD counterpart was issued for this specific version release.

With the exception of the three audio commentaries, which were included on the 4K UHD disc as well, all other special features were located on the Blu-ray disc, which was otherwise identical in content organization to the originating 2009 version. (see here)

Background information[]

In Germany, the individual 4K UHD versions of the four Next Generation films were released six months prior to the originating 4-Movie Collection set. Australasia and Japan on the other hand, only saw the individual standalone releases, including this one.
Some other territories that had seen their own set release, such as France and Spain, were not provided with their own individual standalone releases afterwards, but which was not that much of an issue as the 4K UHD format was region-free with uniform contents for all territories, meaning that any import would do in those countries.

↑ The Region geo-restricting encoding had, for all intent and purposes, been dispensed with all together by the industry upon the advent of the UHD format, even though that policy change has never been made public officially. This incidentally, had already been applied to the Blu-ray disc format as well, whose region encoding was since late 2009 silently, but gradually, abandoned too, which in Star Trek's case started with the Blu-ray releases of TOS Season 2 and Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection, [1]^(X) only to pick up speed from the mid-2010s onward.
