A salon was a social gathering in which the attendees amused and edified each other.
Castro hosted regular salons aboard the USS Cerritos with her friends, including Jennifer Sh'reyan, Anya, and Wendy. The dress code for her salons was always "Betazoid casual". In 2381, Sh'reyan invited her new girlfriend Beckett Mariner to one of these salons. Mariner reluctantly accepted, though after Sh'reyan left she remarked, "I'm already not liking that they call their hangouts 'salons'. Like, what are you, Hemingway?"
The theme of the salon was "Personal Battlefields", and featured Impulian candle-making, a monologue by Castro about an experience on the USS Enterprise, and a new dance piece, "The Kobayashi Maroon", by Anya. The salon was interrupted when the Cerritos lost power due to a Karemma device, and the trapped attendees began to panic when they learned that their candles were depleting the oxygen in the compartment. With Sh'reyan's blessing, Mariner stunned everyone with a phaser so as to reduce their oxygen usage. (LD: "Hear All, Trust Nothing")
