Renée Picard

Doctor Renée Picard was a 21st century Human astronaut.

Early life[]

Born in 1996, Picard grew up in southern France.

Two conflicting versions of her birthdate are shown in "Fly Me to the Moon": according to her passport she was born on November 22nd, 1996, while according to the security check screen, she was born on July 1st, 1996.

Renée taught herself to be an expert sailor by age ten, and had survived the capsizing off her sailboat off Martha's Vineyard. By age eleven, she taught herself chess, fluid dynamics, and Cantonese; and by age sixteen, she was attending a university. She later spent a couple of years as a test pilot, which eventually led to her being recruited by NASA. (PIC: "Fly Me to the Moon", "Farewell")

Renée suffered from anxiety and depression for most of her life. An early tragedy in her life was the death of her mother; she had placed a toy spaceship in her casket, and had chosen to become an astronaut because she believed that she would be able to fly out far enough to find her in space. Europa Mission[]

In 2024, she was part of the then-upcoming Europa Mission. At one point in that year, she was being observed by Q while she was reading the Dixon Hill novel The Pallid Son at Jackson Roykirk Plaza. (PIC: "Watcher", "Fly Me to the Moon")

She also attended a therapy session during which the therapist, who was Q in disguise, attempted to talk Picard out of the Europa mission. That evening, after her therapy, she attended a mandatory gala before she went into quarantine the next day. (PIC: "Fly Me to the Moon")

According to her great-great-cousin Jean-Luc Picard, she was instrumental in early exploration of the Sol system. (PIC: "The Star Gazer") She eventually discovered a microorganism on Io that she believed to be sentient and convinced the mission commander to bring it back to Earth. (PIC: "Fly Me to the Moon") The microorganism's discovery was crucial to preventing Humanity's impending extinction due to pollution and climate change. (PIC: "Mercy")

On the eve of the launch, she encountered Tallinn, who explained she had been acting as a guardian of sorts for Renée's entire life, having witnessed her mother's funeral and the sailboat incident; she had given Renée a small sailboat pendant after the latter. Tallinn warned Renée that her life was in danger, and asked for her trust. Shortly afterward, a woman who appeared to be Renée encountered Dr. Adam Soong, a donor to the Europa Mission. She was fleeing from a "crazy woman" claiming to be a "guardian from space"; Soong, having been convinced that removing Renée would assure him a place in the future, poisoned her with a fast-acting neurotoxin. It was in fact Tallinn, disguised as Renée, who had sacrificed her life to ensure Renée would survive to make the flight to Europa. (PIC: "Mercy", "Farewell")

Following the mission, Renée became and remained close friends with Cristóbal Rios and his adopted family, becoming Ricardo's "Auntie Renée." As an adult, Ricardo formed a team of the brightest minds in the world, and they figured out how to use the microorganism that Renée had discovered to heal the oceans and clean the skies. While the character was not named directly in "Watcher", where she first appeared, her name was shown in the episode subtitles (without the accent). Her name was confirmed in the next episode "Fly Me to the Moon".
