Mesk

Ensign Mesk was an Orion male Starfleet operations division security officer who served aboard Deep Space 9 during the late 24th century.

Early life[]

Mesk was adopted by Human parents and grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio on Earth. Though seemingly familiar with many aspects of Orion life, he had never, as of the 2380s, visited Orion, with everything he knew about Orions learned from bad holonovels, namely "the ones with the boobs on the cover." He put on an exaggerated front of acting like people expected Orions to act, and because he never knew any other Orions in Ohio, no one ever checked him on it.

At some point in time, he did learn how to read and write in the Orion language.

Starfleet career[]

Mesk was one of only a few Orions to join Starfleet, and as such, he never ran into them. Upon serving aboard Deep Space 9, he thought it was cool living next to the Bajoran wormhole because it often attracted "some pretty shady characters coming through here."

In 2381, he encountered Sam Rutherford and fellow Orion D'Vana Tendi in Quark's Bar during the USS Cerritos' visit to the station. He spent much of his time indicating that he was the son of Orion pirates whom he defied to join the service, even showing off his Orion multi-key, and sang an Orion pirate shanty.

Mesk later got himself assigned as the personal security for Tendi and Rutherford as they transferred a gift pallet aboard a visiting Karemma ship, but the trio were accidentally taken prisoner aboard the ship when the Karemma arrested Quark. When Rutherford suggested that Mesk use his pirating skills to take the ship, he broke down and admitted that he was a fake. Tendi, however, revealed that she was an experienced pirate herself, and was able to make use of his multi-key to stop the ship.

Later, prior to the departure of the Cerritos, he was chatting with a Bolian in Quark's Bar while holding a Modela aperitif. (LD: "Hear All, Trust Nothing")
