Hysperian

Hysperians

The Hysperians were a group of Humans who colonized the planet Hysperia.

Culture[]

The Hysperians were considered "Ren faire types", meaning that they based their culture around concepts popular during Earth's Renaissance period, combined with elements of fantasy. Their lives were apparently full of "mythical adventure", as they kept dragons for pets, lived in castles, and ate mutton.

Their starships also reflected the Hysperians' medieval motif, as it was quite common to see a minstrel playing a lute, knights in armor brandishing swords, and even stables containing live horses aboard a Monaveen-type cruiser.

Hysperians often changed scientific terms to sound more magical. This was reflected in many of their engineering terms, such as "dragonbreath engines", "dragonsblood flame", "elf matrix", and "chief blacksmith". (LD: "Where Pleasant Fountains Lie")

Jett Reno, who had worked for the Hysperians in the 23rd century, fondly recalled that they "really know how to party." (DIS: "Labyrinths")

Government[]

The Hysperians were ruled by a monarchy that was seemingly independent of the Federation, as they maintained their own laws and operated their own space fleet, which was known as the royal navy.

One stipulation of Hysperian law was if that if the prince lost his virginity, he would automatically become king. The Royal Copulation played a part in fulfilling this process. Royal guards who partook in the Royal Copulation were supposedly trained to skip foreplay from the moment they were born.

Another stipulation of Hysperian law was that the prince had to abdicate the throne in order to pursue other interests, such as joining Starfleet. (LD: "Where Pleasant Fountains Lie")
