Elas was an inhabited planet, the inner of the two, the other being Troyius, found within the Tellun system in the Alpha Quadrant. This was the homeworld of the Elasians, a spacefaring humanoid species.

In the mid-23rd century, this planet's system was located in a border area near the Federation-Klingon border.

In 2256, this planet was mentioned with the star system's name on the star chart "Alpha/Beta Quadrant Overview" in the ready room aboard the USS Discovery. (DIS: "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad")

In 2257, during the first Federation-Klingon War, this planet's system was occupied by the Klingons. (DIS: "The War Without, The War Within")

In 2258, the planet's location was labeled on a star chart seen on the main viewscreen of the USS Enterprise. (DIS: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2")

In 2259, the location of this planet was labeled on a stellar cartography chart that was seen on the USS Enterprise's ready room viewscreen. This planet's symbol had a blue color, indicating that it was affiliated with the United Federation of Planets. (SNW: "Strange New Worlds", "Children of the Comet", "Spock Amok")

Prior to the visit by the USS Enterprise in 2268, Federation scientists had studied the culture of the Elasians. In that year, both planets possessed the capability of mutual destruction. The wedding of the Dohlman of Elas, Elaan, to the ruler of Troyius preserved the peace.

Dilithium crystals were abundant on the planet, where it was considered to be a rather common stone. The Klingon Empire became aware of the Elasian dilithium deposits by 2268, and held the secret closely while they argued with the Federation over jurisdiction of the Tellun system. (TOS: "Elaan of Troyius")

In 2369, when shown his guest quarters aboard the USS Enterprise-D by Ensign Kane, Montgomery Scott reminisced to him about the time that the Dohlman of Elas was transported aboard the earlier Enterprise. He remembered her whining and complaining about the quarters. (TNG: "Relics")

The planet's location was labeled in a Federation star chart that was in Fleet Admiral Kirsten Clancy's office at Starfleet Headquarters in 2399 and on the bridge of the USS Titan in 2401. Elas was in or near to Federation space. (PIC: "Maps and Legends", "The Next Generation", "Disengage")

In 2401, this planet's position was labeled on a star chart used by Captain William T. Riker during his attempt at finding the last known location of the SS Eleos XII. (PIC: "The Next Generation")

"EE-las" was the pronunciation for this planet's name from the script pronunciation guide for "Relics". [1]

According to Star Trek: Star Charts ("United Federation of Planets I"), in 2378, Elas was a Federation member.
