Exciting news! https://lnkd.in/gGVSKerR "We’re opening up the operating system powering our Meta Quest devices to third-party hardware makers, giving more choice to consumers and a larger ecosystem for developers to build for. We’re working with leading global technology companies to bring this new ecosystem to life and making it even easier for developers to build apps and reach their audiences on the platform." #Meta #Quest #MetaHorizonOS #MixedReality ##VirtualReality #AugmentedReality #XR #MetaQuest
Excellent. Looking forward to seeing more devices and a larger platform for devs. Allowing apps to be run concurrently in the OS, Augments will be the next big deal.
Is the MetaOS a customized version of Android? And aside game engines like unity, can Java or Kotlin be used to build for it?
First thought: is this trying to replicate the Windows vs. Mac OS strategy from the 80s? 😂
This is massive. Will really drive a lot of changes in the VR ecosystem
This is something big! Opening the OS for more hardware makers is definitely the right move, super excited!
So glad to see our paths cross once again!
It's a brave new MetaWorld.
This is huge!
Brilliant 💪🏻

2moIMO the best way Meta can pull further ahead of its competitors and stay there is to provide a well defined and simple mechanism for developers to get their XR apps in the Quest store. For independent developers at the moment it seems to be labs —> then maybe main store if it does well in labs. Is there an “official process” for independent developers to get their mixed reality apps into the main Quest store other than the current unclear process?
