Type Timeline and Colors added to Typography Insight for HoloLens

I am excited to share the new features on my app Typography Insight for HoloLens - ‘type timeline’ and ‘color picker’. In the Historical Types menu, now you can explore historically important typefaces in three dimensional timeline format, from Old style/Garald to modern Humanist Sans-Serif, with summary information. You can air-tap to open an item to see the details and specimen. Since you can view it from different angles, you can also compare the shapes of letter ‘g’s and learn how they have evolved.

Originally I made this Type Explorer about ten years ago in Adobe Flash and Papervision3D(3D framework for Flash) with Action Script. Since it was all software rendering and required a lot of CPU power, it was very slow. Now with HoloLens, I could bring it from PC’s 2D canvas into the real world space.

Another new feature is color for type. Now in Type Playground, you will see the ‘Colors’ menu in the tool bar which will open up the color picker. You can apply these colors to currently focused text. This will help you experiment and understand the characteristics of colors in HoloLens. I hope you enjoy holographic types with colors in the mixed reality world!
