The Jinsei Chamber is a stage in the Mortal Kombat series. The arena is located in Earthrealm and houses Earthrealm's life force, the Jinsei, in the most protected chamber of Raiden's Sky Temple.
Overview[]
Dating at the dawn of time, the Jinsei Chamber is the most secure and important space on Raiden's Sky Temple, located at one of its highest buildings and protected by his ward.
On its walls and surroundings, carved by the own hands of the Thunder God, are stony figures that tell the birth of the realms: from the One Being's split with use of the Kamidogu, through Shinnok's betrayal of his fellow Elder Gods, to the modern heroes.
At the heart of the chamber, said to be 'like gazing upon the Elder Gods themselves', is a glowing blue liquid, almost like cold lava - the Jinsei - Earthrealm's life force, that flows through the realm like blood through arteries. This complex substance has unique properties of healing, capable of restoring anyone's health just by being inside the chamber. When needing rejuvenation of his energies, Raiden usually steps into the floating stones around the ethereal Jinsei and meditates inside its core.
During the events of Mortal Kombat X, it's revealed that Shinnok's plan is to poison the Jinsei, a fact that can occur by the mere touch of the fallen Elder God, due to his pure evil essence and corruption. By doing so, Shinnok inverts the Jinsei's life properties and inflicts death and plague through the realm, withering all of its life. The corruption was reversed, but Raiden himself became corrupted during the process.
Interactions[]
The Jinsei Chamber features four arena interactions. From farthest left to farthest right they are:
- A statue holding a basin of blue liquid that the opponent's head can be forced into and the basin smashed.
- Two pots filled with blue liquid on opposite sides of the chamber.
- A wall that can run up on to escape the right hand corner.
Jinsei Properties[]
The essence of Earthrealm's life force, the Jinsei, has several unique properties used by the gods of Earthrealm that protect it. Both Raiden and Fujin regularly enter the Jinsei to revitalize themselves after strenuous trials, the Jinsei restoring their strength and healing any wounds inflicted upon them.
The Jinsei is as much apart of Earthrealm's protector gods as it is the very realm from which it flows, with Raiden himself having proclaimed that the Jinsei flows in his veins, likewise informing the newly formed Fire God Liu Kang to draw strength from its essence now infused in his being, which allowed him to overpower and defeat the revenant forms of Kitana, Kung Lao, and Jade, after they themselves had been empowered by the Titan of Time, Kronika.
The healing properties of the Jinsei can also be used on mortals as well, as shown when Raiden used the Jinsei to heal Takeda Takahashi from the mortal injuries he sustained while battling a Blood Code corrupted Raiden. After this, Takeda noted his rejuvenation had seemingly strengthened him as well, also proven when he survived a barrage of destructive energy fired from the Amulet of Shinnok for several seconds, an impressive feat considering the amulet's power to destroy multiple mortals in a single shot.
The Jinsei can naturally repel corrupted beings from itself if the need should arise to protect itself from potential corruption, as shown by its rejection of Raiden after he had abused Blood Magik several times, but the raw darkness and decay composing the fallen Elder God Shinnok overwhelmed this defense, and saw the Jinsei itself completely corrupted when Shinnok stepped into it and began absorbing its power, turning the essence of life into a plague of death that began to spread over the entire world. Raiden was able to reverse this corruption by stepping into the tainted Jinsei and drawing the still pure essence from inside of Shinnok after his corrupted form was defeated, allowing him to restore the Jinsei's natural properties, although Raiden himself was corrupted in the process.
Trivia[]
- Based on spelling, "Jinsei" can translate to "life" (人生), "this world" (人世), "human nature", "instinct" (both written with the same kanji: 人性), and "benevolent administration" (仁政) in Japanese. Due to its mystical properties as aforementioned, it can be inferred that the first of these meanings is applicable in this case.
