Vashti was an inhabited planet located in a binary star system in the Qiris sector, within the Beta Quadrant. It had at least one moon, and was settled by Humans and Romulans. The indigenous lifeforms on the planet included insects. Locations included Central Station, North Station and Southeast Station, with roads and waterways.
History[]
Prior to 2385, this planet was chosen as a Romulan Relocation Hub by the Federation, receiving refugees from the Romulan Star Empire in anticipation of the Romulan sun going supernova. Admiral Jean-Luc Picard was familiar with the world and was well-known to many of its inhabitants, including members of the Qowat Milat, who assisted the Federation with relocating over 250,000 refugees. The Fenris Rangers also assisted with the purchase and installation of a secondhand Romulan planetary defense system consisting of a security net and orbital killer drones.
By 2399, the inhabitants of Vashti suffered from poverty, degradation, and ethnic strife, which had not previously been present on the planet. Members of the Qowat Milat still resided on Vashti, many of them serving as an unofficial security force along major transport routes. Central Station on the planet served as the primary point of contact for interplanetary visitors. Vashti was also a hotbed of activity for members of the Romulan Rebirth movement, including former Senator Tenqem Adrev.
Retired Admiral Picard visited Vashti again during that year for the first time since 2385, reuniting with members of the Qowat Milat and securing Elnor's companionship as a qalankhkai bound to his quest to locate Bruce Maddox and locate and protect Soji Asha. (PIC: "Absolute Candor")
A Vashti postcard was displayed on the wall of 10 Forward Avenue in 2401. (PIC: "The Star Gazer") It was later included in a holodeck recreation of 10 Forward Avenue as well. (PIC: "No Win Scenario")

Vashti was first described in the first season press kit as originally being a Human colony on the edge of "the old Romulan Neutral Zone".[1]
Apocrypha[]
In the first Star Trek: Picard novel The Last Best Hope, the relocation of Romulan refugees to Vashti was depicted and often served as Admiral Picard's shining example of what successfully rendered aid could look like, among other efforts that were causing political friction with the Federation Council and Starfleet Command.
