A unicorn was a type of horse with a single horn protruding from its head.

In 1986, what appeared to be a rare antique tapestry featuring the artwork of a unicorn was hanging on the wall by the stairs at the Feinberg's Loan and Pawn, which was an antique shop that James T. Kirk and Spock went to while they were in the 20th century. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
