The United Earth Fleet starship Enterprise was constructed at the Luna Shipyards on Luna and was launched on April 11, 2245. (SNW: "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow"; dedication plaque) By 2259, was under the command of United Earth Fleet Captain James T. Kirk.
In 2259, the Enterprise responded to the distress call from the Vulcan ship Sh'Rel, which had entered sovereign space. Their captain, Spock, asked the Enterprise and United Earth for aid in their war with the Romulan Star Empire, but Kirk declined, stating they were not able to support a war on two fronts. In the episode, the ship's dedication plaque visible in the background uses the name "UEF Enterprise", but James T. Kirk identifies his birth ship as the "USS Iowa" in dialogue. It is unclear if one prefix should be taken as an error or if United Earth in this timeline uses more than one prefix.
