Usage[]

This template is used to link to external website entries without a dedicated template. A variable is required giving the end path to the address in question, and a second variable can be used to alter the linking text.

URLs containing unencoded equal signs ('=') will break this template. To fix this, you will have to encode all equal signs using {{=}}.

The abbreviation "el" can be used in the template instead of the full "external link" designation.

To link to an article, for example one at the Hollywood Reporter, you would have a template call as such:

{{external link|www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/star-trek-second-animated-series-more-short-treks-coming-cbs-all-access-1174218}}

This would produce:

[1]

If text is desired, such as "Animated Short Treks", the following format should be used:

{{external link|www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/star-trek-second-animated-series-more-short-treks-coming-cbs-all-access-1174218|Animated ''Short Treks''}}

This would produce:

Animated Short Treks

For example, if you wish the link to be formatted as an external link, add the base website address as a third variable:

{{external link|www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/star-trek-second-animated-series-more-short-treks-coming-cbs-all-access-1174218|Animated ''Short Treks''|www.hollywoodreporter.com}}

This would produce:

Animated Short Treks at www.hollywoodreporter.com

If you wish the external link to display different text, the following format should be used:

{{external link|www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/star-trek-second-animated-series-more-short-treks-coming-cbs-all-access-1174218|Animated ''Short Treks''|www.hollywoodreporter.com|The Hollywood Reporter}}

This would produce:

Animated Short Treks at The Hollywood Reporter
