{{bginfo}} (background info) is used on in-universe articles to mark snippets of text written from a production point of view. Over the years, it has also come to signify notes and technical clarifications on Memory Alpha's "maintenance" pages (wiki policies, templates, et cetera).

URLs containing unencoded equal signs (=) will break this template. To fix this, you should encode all equal signs using {{=}}. An alternative would be to use the HTML entity = in place of the equal sign.
