A sundae was a type of food that came in several varieties, including chocolate sundae, hot fudge sundae, ice cream sundae, and wikki fruit sundae.
Tuvok once suggested sundaes as an alternative answer to the following riddle: "A lone ensign finds himself stranded on a class L planetoid with no rations. His only possession, a calendar. When Starfleet finds him twelve months later, he's in perfect health. Why didn't he starve to death?" According to Tuvok, rather than eat the "dates" (Neelix's solution), he might have eaten the sundaes, i.e. Sundays. (VOY: "Riddles")
