The Starfleet Emergency Medical Course was a supplementary medical class designed to teach non-medical Starfleet officers basic medical skills for use in an emergency.
In 2368, Lieutenant Worf revealed he had delivered a Human baby in a holodeck simulation during his Emergency Medical Course. He noted that the delivery that took place in the simulation was "very orderly." This prior experience enabled him to successfully deliver the O'Brien's baby when the USS Enterprise-D hit a quantum filament and was severely damaged, sealing off several decks. (TNG: "Disaster")
