Starbase 5 was a Federation starbase administered by Starfleet. This base was located in the Alpha Quadrant. It had a medical facility that included a psychiatric ward. As of 2257, it was administered by Captain Diego Vela. (DIS: "New Eden", "Point of Light", "An Obol for Charon")
In 2257, Lieutenant Spock had himself admitted to the psychiatric ward of Starbase 5. In doing so, he requested that Starfleet not inform his family about the matter, including his father, Sarek, and foster sister, Michael Burnham. His commanding officer, Christopher Pike, was aware of it, however. (DIS: "New Eden")
