Background information[]

  • Unlike the previous release for Star Trek: The Motion Picture, the pictures are all in black-and-white, and all the text is simply printed near or on the given images (akin to captions in live-action motion picture productions), instead of being inserted as text balloons in the stills.
  • Editor Anobile actually delivered his work to the publisher in full color, just like the preceding one he had also done, but, as he recalled, "I never did another STAR TREK book [afterwards] because I delivered a full color book for THE WRATH OF KHAN, but the publishers decided to print in black and white – and I was given shit for it by fans though it was not my decision. And that was that." [1]
  • Demand was such that a second printing was already deemed necessary two months later under a new ISBN.
  • Copies intended for dissemination in British Canada, featured an additional maple leaf logo on the cover, but were otherwise, apart from the price imprint, identical to the US first edition, including the ISBN.
  • A UK version, also intended for dissemination in Australia and New Zealand, was released the same year by Methuen Publishing Ltd. as an outing in their "Magnet Special" book line.
  • While no internationally translated book editions are known to exist, a very similar but differently edited 1983 German serialized magazine version has been published in the television magazine Gong as Star Trek – Der Zorn des Khan . Unlike the Pocket Books version though, the German version is in full color. [2]
