Star Trek the Original Series the Complete Collection 2021 Limited SteelBook Edition contents

Contents of the 2021 Limited SteelBook® Edition

Star Trek: The Original Series - The Complete Series is a Blu-ray Disc box set of Star Trek: The Original Series released in the year of its 50th anniversary, and for Region A essentially the first re-release since the very basic 2009 Star Trek: The Original Series - Seasons 1-3 issue, whereas it is for Region B a re-release of the more recent Star Trek: The Original Series - The Full Journey collection – and as which the German Region B version was actually re-released in 2015.

Unlike the DVD counterpart and the German Blu-ray Full Journey versions, though, this edition was not executed as a hardboard slipcase, but rather as a slipbox with the discs contained within one large Epic Pak case, such as the American and French ones. There were in Region B variations however; the Italian release – as the first known one – for example, came in three individual season plastic snapcases.

Five years later, the same set was reissued in Region A on the occasion of Star Trek's 55th anniversary in the twenty-disc Epic Pak plastic snap case, having this time dispensed with the hardboard slipcase. This regular reissue did not see other reissues in any of the other regions, which still had to make do with the 2016 releases. However, a concurrent "Limited SteelBook® Edition" was also released, in which the discs of each of the three seasons were packaged in their own individual steelbook, issued within a hardboard slipcase. This version did see a limited Region B release in the UK, a week earlier than the North American one in effect.

Originally, it was planned to have these reissue sets (along with its reissue DVD counterpart) released on the very same 7 September date (Star Trek's actual birthday) as the Star Trek: The Original 4-Movie Collection set. However, it was decided to push back the release date by nearly two months in order not to steal away the thunder from the new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format the classic films were executed in for the first time. [1]

While in a few cases still being marketed as region-restricted, all release variants are in actuality region-free as this has become commonplace for the Blu-ray format. [2] The 2021 reissues for example, do not even have a region indication printed on the packaging anymore.
