Breen dreadnaught using shield-tunneling technology
Shield-tunneling technology was a weapon utilized by the Breen Imperium in the 32nd century. It consisted of an energy beam that automatically matched the shield frequency of its target via harmonic resonance, creating a localized disruption that allowed transporters to penetrate.
In 3191, Primarch Ruhn's Breen dreadnaught used shield-tunneling technology to insert soldiers into the Eternal Gallery and Archive through its shields. This was the first time that the technology had been witnessed by the Federation, though Commander Rayner knew of it from his previous experience with the Breen. Commanders Paul Stamets and Jett Reno, and Ensign Adira Tal, devised a means to temporarily close the tunnel by using a concentrated positron beam from the USS Discovery to fool the system into believing that Archive's shield frequency had changed.
