Scrubs were clothing worn by medical practitioners while performing surgery. These included shirts, pants, scrub caps, and foot coverings.
In 1986, James T. Kirk, Leonard McCoy, and Gillian Taylor dressed up in scrubs to infiltrate an operating room at Mercy Hospital and save an injured Pavel Chekov. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
