According to background material used for Star Trek Generations, Ville de Saumur (French for town of Saumur) was the birthplace of the Picard family. A family tree included in a section of the Picard family album, not seen in either films it was featured in, showed it to be the home of Madame de La Barre and Francoise de Picard, the founders of the family line. The family tree also included a picture of the city as it appeared at the time.
