A sarkaress was a Breen feast day. Among the activities involved were oil baths. Breen who attended the event together were known as "sarkmates".
In 3191, a sarkaress was planned aboard Ruhn's dreadnaught to celebrate their imminent capture of Progenitor technology. Though the word was not in the Federation database, Captain Michael Burnham was able to deduce its context and the appropriate responses while she and Cleveland Booker were infiltrating the ship disguised as Breen.
