Resurrection or reanimation was the bringing back of individuals from the dead after a prolonged period of time, particularly with supernatural means. In 2256, Doctor Hugh Culber was killed by Ash Tyler when he fell under the control of Voq's consciousness. Unbeknownst to anyone else, Culber's essence was transferred into the mycelial network through Paul Stamets. Months later, in 2257, Culber's presence in the network was discovered and he was resurrected by the jahSepp version of May Ahearn who rebuilt Culber's body in the jahSepp cocoon on the USS Discovery. However, Captain Michael Burnham learned from a Progenitor that while the technology could create a genetically identical individual, they would share none of the original's memories or fundamental essence, meaning that it couldn't be used for resurrection.
