A pejorative or slur was a word or phrase used to insult, show disapproval for, or criticize a person or thing. The negative connotations of a term could vary depending on the social setting. A pejorative based on racism was a racial slur.
In 2374, Weyoun 5 refused to do a Federation News Service interview with Jake Sisko because Weyoun read Sisko's previous articles and concluded that Sisko was biased against the Dominion for referring to them as Deep Space 9's "occupying force", which had a negative connotation. Weyoun noted that all of Sisko's articles were filled with pejorative terminology and witheld their transmission as a result. (DS9: "A Time to Stand")
