Pedestrian crossing sign

A pedestrian crossing sign was a sign that informed pedestrians wishing to cross the street whether it was safe to cross or not, using the terms "WALK" and "DON'T WALK".

In 1986, the city of San Francisco used these signs. James T. Kirk and Spock stood near a pair while time traveling back to that year. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
