Pat Sweeney in 1987

Patrick "Pat" Sweeney is a visual effects artist who worked on several Star Trek projects. He started his Trek connection as effects camera operator for Industrial Light & Magic on Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home in 1986 on which he shot the motion control element of the Klingon Bird-of-Prey. In 1987 he worked as Visual Effects Director of Photography for ILM on the Star Trek: The Next Generation first season episode "Encounter at Farpoint". Together with fellow ILM artist David Carson he filmed the explosions and fire sequences on the Old Bandi City model on 16 July 1987 and was interviewed for the TNG Season 1 DVD special feature "The Beginning". In 1994 Sweeney was the Visual Effects Director of Photography on Star Trek Generations and in 1996 he worked as additional Visual Effects Photographer on Star Trek: First Contact. His most recent Trek connection was in 2009, as Visual Effects Director of Photography for Kerner Optical on J.J. Abrams' Star Trek.
