New Mexico

New Mexico

New Mexico was a region located within the interior of the North American continent of Earth. This was a state in the United States of America. The bordering states were Arizona, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah. The bordering country was Mexico. Albuquerque was a city in this state. (DS9: "Little Green Men"; ENT: "Storm Front", "Storm Front, Part II")

Prior to becoming part of the United States, New Mexico was part of the Spanish Empire and the home of many Native American tribes. In 1680, it was the primary location of the Pueblo Revolt. Ten years later, the area was reconquered by Spain and hundreds of Native Americans were killed. One of the soldiers who suppressed the revolt was Javier Maribona-Picard, a distant ancestor of Starfleet Captain Jean-Luc Picard. (TNG: "Journey's End")

In 1925, a Folsom point was discovered there. (TOS: "The Galileo Seven")

In an alternate timeline in which Nazi Germany had invaded the United States, as of 1944 New Mexico was controlled by American forces. (ENT: "Storm Front", "Storm Front, Part II")

In July 1947, Rom, Odo, Quark, and Nog crash landed in a Ferengi shuttle near the town of Roswell in this region. Their crash landing became known as the Roswell Incident. (DS9: "Little Green Men")

In 1957, White Sands, New Mexico was the location of an atomic bomb test that was aired on television. (ENT: "Carbon Creek")

New Mexico was named on a map of the United States (Die Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika).

The contours of this state were seen in the map of the United States in "Little Green Men".

In an early script of VOY: "One", Harry Kim stated that he was born in New Mexico. However, this was changed – in that episode's final version – to South Carolina. (Star Trek Monthly issue 42, p. 17)
