Lupaza was a member of the Shakaar resistance cell and, as such, fought the Cardassians during the Occupation of Bajor.

In 2355, Lupaza met young Kira Nerys, who wanted to join the resistance. Although the rest of the cell found Kira too young, Lupaza felt that Kira had the heart of a sinoraptor and supported her. After Kira's first mission, Lupaza made her a Bajoran earring out of the metal of a destroyed skimmer.

In 2371, Shakaar refused to return soil reclamators to Kai Winn, who had become acting first minister of Bajor. That evening, Lupaza had dinner with Furel, Shakaar, and Kira, the latter of whom had been sent by Kai Winn to convince Shakaar to return the equipment and caught up on old times with her friends during their reunion, including gently questioning Furel as to why he had not had his arm replaced. Upon learning that this was because Furel thought doing so would be disrespectful to the Prophets to whom he had prayed for the strength to save his comrades, Lupaza was moved. When Winn sent the Bajoran Militia to arrest Shakaar, Lupaza – together with Furel, Kira, and most of the other former members of the Shakaar resistance cell – joined Shakaar in resisting the Kai by going on the run, hiding in the mountains. During this time, Lupaza seemed to serve as Shakaar's second-in-command.

Lupaza was an expert in breaking into secured computer systems. She was also very close to Furel. (DS9: "Shakaar")

In 2373, Lupaza and Furel visited a pregnant Kira on starbase Deep Space 9, because someone was killing their former resistance comrades and they had come to protect Kira. The two sneaked aboard DS9 unnoticed, by beaming into Chief O'Brien's bedroom from a nearby transport ship, despite precautions against unauthorized transports which Lupaza was able to bypass. Unfortunately, their assailant, Silaran Prin, knew where she was and planted an explosive device on the station's window, by means of a hunter probe. When it exploded, the room decompressed and she was killed. (DS9: "The Darkness and the Light")

Appearances[]

Background information[]

Lupaza was played by Diane Salinger. According to the script for "The Darkness and the Light", Lupaza was pronounced as "LOO-pah-zuh".

Based on Dukat remarking in "Return to Grace" that Kira Nerys was the only female in the Shakaar resistance cell that Shakaar Edon didn't "charm", we may assume that Lupaza had a sexual relationship with Shakaar.

Lupaza's interaction with Furel as well as some dialogue in "Shakaar" seem to indicate that they were more than colleagues. Furthermore, in "The Darkness and the Light", Furel says, "We'll sleep out here. The couch is a little short, but it's probably as comfortable as our bed," in which case "we" and "our" suggest a considerably intimate relationship.

Apocrypha[]

Lupaza also appears in the Star Trek: Terok Nor novels Night of the Wolves and Dawn of the Eagles.
